Towne Crier: January 2010 Heart to Heart
Friends,
I want to share with you this letter I recieved recently. Part of the Hope Chest Journey is developing habitudes about work.

Donna-
I wanted to tell you again thank you for your inspired words in regards to the Hope Chest Journey and Princess Academies.
You mentioned how sometimes we as mothers feel conflicted ; “how can I take care of my house when my child is around --and how can I spend time with my child when I need to be taking care of my house?”
We discussed other things related to family work that really opened my heart and eyes to the way it could be –and should be in our homes.
I went home and immediately had a different mental and physical approach to teaching my children and caring for our home.
We all work in the same room together, I am more patient as I realize that gradual teaching-time with them-not perfection-is the current aim.
I allow a bit more silliness, and remember to smile as my family helps to lift the burden I wrongfully was carrying alone.
I don’t feel like this is capturing the huge shift in my thinking and our family’s attitude toward work.
Perhaps this will help--
My daughter, four-years-old, has a prayer she’d been saying every evening it was her turn. It was always “help daddy to finish his thesis, and help mommy to work hard to clean the house.” A few days after our new approach to working together her prayer was “ help daddy to finish his thesis, and help mommy…and us… to work hard to clean the house.”
Donna, I look forward to learning more from you and the inspired resources you’ve discovered and gratefully share with others!
I had been thinking of how to teach my daughters skills I wish I had known when I started out on my own.
Your Princess Academies idea is so inspired and timely. I am so excited and grateful to be a part of it and learn from and with others.
Thank you!
